THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF GUN SAFETY
Gun owners can literally live, die or kill by their gun-handling habits. It is our responsibility to know the basic rules of gun handling consciously and instinctively.

It is our further responsibility to share and even enforce this knowledge when necessary since not everyone who handles a gun in our presence is familiar with guns or these simple rules. The Gang here at Bowen Classic Arms asks you to review these from time to time, remembering the life you save may be your own or that of someone close. Please copy this list and share it with your friends and family

1 TREAT EVERY GUN AS IF IT WERE LOADED — This rule is the most important of all. Believe every gun is loaded and can go off any time it wants to.

2 DO NOT TRUST THE SAFETY — It is a mechanical device subject to wear, failure and inadvertence. Just because a gun is on ‘safe’, there is no 100% guarantee the gun won’t go off anyway. The real safety is the person behind the gun.

3 MAKE CERTAIN A GUN IS EMPTY BEFORE HANDLING OR CLEANING — Do not take someone else’s word for it. Check it yourself. If you are not familiar with a gun's operation, ask for assistance. Know your gun and its operation.

4 ALWAYS KEEP A GUN POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION — Remember, even if the gun is ‘empty’, it can go off anytime, anywhere. Steer the muzzle up, down or sideways, anywhere, anything it takes to keep from pointing the gun at someone. Know where the muzzle is at all times. KNOW WHAT IS BEHIND YOUR TARGET. If you can’t see where your bullet will land and stay, do not shoot. Do not put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

5 DO NOT EVER POINT A GUN AT SOMETHING YOU DO NOT WISH TO KILL OR DESTROYEnough said.

6 UNLOAD GUNS WHEN NOT IN USE — Loaded guns must not fall into the wrong hands. Guns must be properly and securely stored when not in use. Keep ammunition and guns separate when possible.

7 AVOID HORSEPLAY — Guns are not toys and must be treated with respect.

8 ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE BARREL IS CLEAR OF OBSTRUCTIONS — Make damn sure it is unloaded by YOU before you go peeping down the bore.

9 ALWAYS WEAR PROPER EYE AND EAR PROTECTION. Hot gases, bits of bullet, empty cases, etc. fly out of guns and can blind you. Unprotected exposure to gunfire can permanently damage your hearing in just a few shots.

10 DO NOT USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS WHILE SHOOTING — If you use prescription drugs, consult with your physician to make sure your medicine will not interfere with safe firearms use.
